Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides) belongs to the sweet grass family (Poaceae) and is native to tropical Asia. Today vetiver is at home in all sub-tropical areas.
Vetiver plants are grown in many countries to stop soil erosion with their deep roots. The roots penetrate the ground up to three meters deep with a dense network. In Asia, vetiver roots are used to make fragrant wickerwork and mats. Vetiver organic essential oil from Primavera comes from Madagascar.

Mixes well with : sandalwood , Oud, orange, Ylang ylang , Tuberose, jasmine, tonka, cardamom

The essential oil is viscous and dark brown in color. It is used in perfumes and other cosmetic products. It is extracted from the roots by steam distillation. The fragrance is woody and earthy, intense and tart, reminiscent of sandalwood.

Tip: Vetiver oil is a proven means of getting rid of insects. In the Orient, fabrics are impregnated with the oil to protect them from moths. For us too, the oil is a natural and non-toxic alternative to mothballs, which has earned it the name moth root. Soak handkerchiefs or blotting paper with the oil and place them in the cupboard between the woollens.
