The grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) is a mixture of the grapefruit (Citrus maxima) and the orange (Citrus sinensis). The fruit belongs to the citrus fruits and to the diamond family (Rutaceae). The grapefruit tree grows to a height of between 4 and 6 meters.The home is the Mediterranean area, North-South America and Asia. The pure essential grapefruit oil comes from the peel of the citrus fruit grapefruit, which is a hybrid between grapefruit and sweet orange. Grapefruits were cultivated in Jamaica by Captain Shaddock in the 18th century. The fruits hang like grapes on the branches, therefore, according to tradition, the name “grapefruit” was coined from the image of the ripe fruits on the tree. This oil is obtained by squeezing the peel. Unlike bergamot oil, it is not phototoxic.

At 1ltr. 200 kg of peel or fruit are needed to obtain oil.

We differentiate between two manufacturing processes:

1. Grapefruit oil, from the skin. It is not quite as fruity in taste and smell.

2. Grapefruit oil-complete, here the fruit is completely processed. The scent is more intense.

Mixes well with: lemon balm, mint, ylang-ylang, Palmarosa, Giant fir and sage.
