Winter green : The sham berries (Gaultheria), also called partridge berries, are a genus of plants in the family Ericaceae. Heidekrautgewächse Gaultheriaspecies usually grow as evergreen shrubs or semi-shrubs, which reach heights of less than 10 cm to 2.5 m. An exception is the Gaultheria fragrantissima, which originates from the Himalayas and can reach heights of 5 to 6 m as a small tree.

There are about 35 species. “Ours” Winter green Gaultheria fragrantissima grows in Nepal and grows about 15-20cm high. The color of the flowers ranges from white to light pink. The herb produces deep red berries, which exude an intense sweet scent when crushed.

The extraction of 1l oil requires about 900 kg of plant material.

It can be mixed well with frankincense for fragrancing.
