violet or Violas ( viola ) are a genus of plants in the violet family (Violaceae). About 500 species of the family are known. The Fragrant violets ( Viola odorata ), also March violets or Fragrant violet called, belongs to the violet family (Violaceae). From the fresh leaves of the fragrant violet, especially the “Victoria” variety, the dark green violet leaf absolute essential oil is extracted, which is a precious aromatic substance and is used to round off floral perfumes.

Their home is the Mediterranean, Europe to the Caucasus.

The fragrant violet is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant. It grows to a height of between 5 and 15 cm. It has been cultivated in the garden since ancient times because it was used very early in both religious rites and medicine. Since the early Middle Ages at the latest, it has also been cultivated as an ornamental and medicinal plant in Central Europe.

In ancient times, the violet was even a sacred flower. It was dedicated to the god Pan and violet wreaths were worn on the head in honor of Saturn.

Even Hippocrates used the violet for all kinds of ailments, including visual disturbances, headaches and melancholy.
