Sandalwood has always been a treasure. Here we offer you an oil from Mysore, India, distilled from the 40-year-old heartwood and matured in our cellar for over 26 years… A dream! The white sandalwood tree or white sandalwood(Santalum album) is a plant species within the sandalwood family (Santalaceae). East Indian sandalwood oil – like sandalwood old – comes from the wood of the sandalwood tree(Santalum album, Santalaceae family), which grows mainly in southern India.

In India, the possession, trade and storage of sandalwood and its products are regulated by law. Sandalwood is probably the most “fake” wood fragrance, so much is declared as sandalwood oil, which has nothing to do with sandalwood. At the end of the day, only the botanical name provides a sure indication of what is in the vial. The annual production of Indian sandalwood is about 1000 tons. In 2006, between six and ten tonnes of sandalwood oil were exported from India and two tonnes from Indonesia. However, the quantities indicated are not sufficient for the worldwide supply of incense sticks, perfumes (almost 80 of all perfumes sold worldwide contain synthetic sandalwood oil), wood products and essential oils. Also doubtful is the amount of sandalwood oil with the so-called “Mysore quality”, which comes only from two state-owned Indian distilleries in Mysore and Shimoga. However, their annual production does not reach the quantities that are on the market. Sandalwood is one of the most meaningful but also expensive fragrance raw materials (Provenance Mysore) and is a classic wood note for good perfumes.

The scent of sandalwood has an aphrodisiac effect, which makes it very popular with men. This aphrodisiac effect has even been scientifically proven, because it has been discovered that an ingredient contained in it smells exactly like a male hormone. The scent of sandalwood is therefore very similar to the fragrance that men emit as a lure.

Our sandalwood comes from Mysore and is becoming more and more expensive from year to year as demand continues to grow. By the way, the red sandalwood is only interesting for dyeing and has no presence in terms of fragrance. Please give the sandalwood a certain respect: it is not for nothing that it is one of the noblest woods. It can even be a small investment; its fragrance becomes better, rounder, more mature and fuller, and more expensive with age.
