This beautiful organic rose oil comes from the province of Kerman in southern Iran. There, damask roses are grown by hundreds of small farmers on the slopes of the Lalehzar Mountains at an altitude of 2000-3000 meters above sea level and distilled in the valley by the cooperative. The cooperative has made a name for itself because the cultivation of roses can guarantee the farmers a real income as a substitute for the former poppy cultivation. The farmers also share in the profits of the rose distillery. A nice anecdote: the mash from the petals produced during rose distillation, which used to be a waste product, is pressed into brick molds, dried in the sun and used as rose bricks for heating.
