Plant family: Route plant (Rutaceae). The bitter orange tree (Citrus × aurantium L.), Grows as an evergreen tree and is up to 10m high. The first trees with the orange-colored fruit probably grew in the southern, tropical regions of the Himalayas or in the mountainous regions of China and have been cultivated for over 4000 years. Moroccan neroli is obtained from the flowers.
The bitter orange has also been at home in Italy since the 11th century. Today, the bitter orange is mainly found in Egypt, Morocco, the south of France and Sicily.
