Description

Lemon myrtle essential oil organic

Lemon myrtle essential oil smells deliciously like lemon candy.

Often simply called tea tree, the lemon myrtle belongs to the myrtle family and is known as lemon myrtle in English-speaking countries. The Australian evergreen shrub thrives mainly in the continent’s rainforests in the states of New South Wales and Queensland. The tree, which can grow up to six meters high, bears the valuable leaves, which are up to 40 millimeters long and five millimeters wide.

In its native Australia, this oil is considered by some aromatherapists to have a more helpful antibacterial effect than tea tree oil – however, it must be highly diluted as it can irritate the skin. One percent lemon myrtle oil is a fresh and effective ingredient in a homemade deodorant, its fine lemony scent has a high good-mood factor.

Before internal use, please consult specialist books, doctor or aromatherapist.

A study has impressively shown that its use against molluscum contagiosum, which mainly affects schoolchildren, is worthwhile*. Due to its antiseptic effect on viruses, it is an ideal oil to use in a fragrance lamp in times of flu and is also recommended to support the remediation of fungal infestations in rooms. But at the end of the day, the wonderful fragrance is simply beguiling – a sunshine-in-a-bottle that many antiseptic oils cannot match.

Please note: Overdosing may cause skin irritation, especially if the oil is older than about two years.

The original inhabitants of Australia, the Aborigines, already used the plant as a tea and its health-promoting effects. When the delicate leaves are crushed, they exude an inimitable lemon aroma as they are rich in essential oils.

According to tradition, James Cook knew about the health-promoting effects of the herb during his voyage to Australia in 1770 and gave his crew lemon myrtle tea to treat scurvy. Current knowledge indicates that the myrtle plant has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. The effect of lemon myrtle can be used successfully in the form of teas for sore throats, bronchitis or similar cold symptoms. The herb also soothes the gastrointestinal tract in cases of bloating and flatulence.

The medicinal effectiveness of myrtle plants, whose essential oils are contained in tea tree oil, is well known. Applied superficially to the skin, lemon myrtle improves skin irritations, soothes insect bites or is used for inhalation against headaches or as a bath additive for relaxation.
