The cedar belongs to the pine family. These include: the Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica), the Himalayan cedar (Cedrus deodorta), the Lebanon cedar (Cedrus libani) and the Cyprus cedar (Cedrus previfolia). Primavera oil comes from wild cedar collection. Cedar can grow up to 40 meters high, its wood is hard and has a strong scent.
The cedar was so popular in ancient Egypt that today’s Lebanon was annexed to the Egyptian Empire because a particularly large number of cedars grew there. So they wanted to secure the supply of cedar wood. Unfortunately, this was exaggerated back then, because today you can hardly find any cedars in Lebanon ( (Cedrus libani)) , there are only a few copies left.
The wild-collected cedar oil we know is made from the so-called Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica), a type of cedar that grows in North Africa. The oil has the same effect as the oil of the original cedar.
The home of the Atlas cedar is the North African Atlas and Rif Mountains, where it grows at altitudes of 1000 to 2000 meters. The Atlas cedar is an evergreen tree that can be 40 meters high and 2 meters in diameter. Atlas cedars can live to be 900 years old.
