Thyme grows as a perennial semi-shrub and reaches a height of 10-40 cm. It belongs to the labiate family (Lamiaceae): In the Mediterranean region, India and North America. Depending on the climate and soil conditions, thyme develops different ingredients and therefore different scent and effect profiles. These varieties are called chemotypes. Thyme Thymol is a strong type of thyme. Thyme Thimol organic essential oil comes from Spain.
The Greek word “thymus” means “courage”, and this was probably the reason why thyme was placed on the heads of soldiers in the form of a wreath when they went to war in ancient Greece.
