Sesame is probably one of the oldest oil plants and belongs to the sesame family (Pedaliaceae). The plant reaches heights of 10-120cm. Sesame is originally native to parts of India. Today it is grown in tropical and subtropical areas around the world. Sesame oil is obtained from the seeds of the sesame. Primavera organic sesame oil comes from Burkina Faso and Mali.
The golden yellow oil has a long tradition in Ayurveda, the holistic medicine of India. Mainly because of its detoxifying and immune system strengthening properties.
The full body massage is also known as the “mother of massages”. The Indian word Abhyanga means “anointing”. With this word the therapy is already described. At the beginning of the massage, the patient is oiled with warm oil, the oil and the massage technique being adapted to the patient. The massage is carried out synchronously by two masseurs and you concentrate on certain parts of the body that are being stimulated. The full body massage aims to harmonize the three “Doshas”, the Vata, the Pitta and the Kapha, constitutions which, according to Ayurveda, reside in every body. This is intended to remove the “ama”, the “undigested”. Ailments such as visual disturbances, skin diseases and sleep disorders are alleviated by the Abhyanga massage.
According to Ayurveda, this massage should be carried out daily and with a little practice you can do this massage yourself. The main parts are the scalp and feet. The massage of these body regions increases the well-being of the whole body. The warm oil should not be massaged in too forcefully with the entire palm of the hand. The deep tissue massage is used to relieve tension. Less oil is used in this massage and the massage movements are performed faster and with higher pressure. In this therapy, too, the massage is performed synchronously by two therapists. This deep tissue massage has an invigorating and stimulating effect on the metabolism and is restorative when tired.
When pouring oil on the forehead, a constant stream of warm sesame oil mixed with herbs flows onto the patient’s forehead from a height of about 10 cm. Most of the mixes are called Kshirabala Thaila, which is made according to a 2000 year old recipe, and Bhringamalakkadi Thaila, which is a 400 year old recipe. According to Ayurvedic teachings, this pour should harmonize and balance the entire vegetative nervous system. The calming effect of this therapy was reproduced in a small study by the International Research Center for Traditional Medicine Toyama / Japan.
