Rosemary belongs to a group of plants of which numerous varieties have been created over the centuries, mainly through breeding and selection. Depending on which variety was used for the distillation of rosemary oil, there are major differences in the composition of the ingredients of the individual rosemary oils. Location and climatic conditions also lead to differences in the composition of the active ingredients.
Due to the predominant lead substance in the oil, it is classified into chemotypes (Ct.). – For example, rosemary oil Ct. Cineol is characterized by a high content of 1.8-cineole (eucalyptol), which has a characteristic eucalyptus scent, while the particularly mild and precious Rosemary Verbenone organic essential oil is characterized by its high verbenone content as well as small amounts of cineole and camphor – and still has an enchanting, slightly lemony-floral scent.
