At that time, this fragrance was obtained from the fresh flowers of the bitter orange trees by distillation or as scented water. Today, neroli mainly comes from the Maghreb countries, i.e. Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt and Algeria, but also from Spain and the Caribbean. One tree produces about 30 kg of blossoms per year and it takes about 1000 kg to produce one liter of organic neroli essential oil.
