Lavender(Lavandula angustifolia, syn. Lavandula officinalis, Lavandula vera) is a member of the Lamiaceae family and is an aromatic shrub that grows up to 100, some up to 200 centimeters. Lavandula angustifolia is divided into the lavender fine, which is cultivated, and the lavender extra – the wild mountain lavender. Lavender extra grows on mountain slopes at altitudes up to 1,800 m and is harvested through wild collection.
In Europe it grows mainly in France and Italy – but also in Argentina and Tasmania.
The ingredients and the effects are similar in both. The European Pharmacopoeia prescribes a minimum content of 13 ml / kg essential oil for the flower drug. Lavender contains a spectrum of well over 100 ingredients.
