The rockrose (Cistus ladanifer), also called lacquer rockrose, is a smoke that grows up to 2.5m high. It gives off a resinous, aromatic smell.

It belongs to the cistus family (Cistaceae). Its home is mainly the Mediterranean area.

The rock rose has been used as a medicinal plant in the Mediterranean for thousands of years. It also provides a large part of the vegetation there. The rock rose was already known in ancient Egypt, where the resin was used for smoking and as a beauty and healing agent.

From about 17kg branches you get 1ltr. oil.
