The South Sea myrtle (Leptospermum scoparium) is a shrub or tree with growth heights of up to four meters. The plant is also known as New Zealand myrtle, Manuka is the name in Maori, which has been recognized as an official language in New Zealand since 1 August 1987. Plant family: Myrtle family (Myrtaceae) Native habitat: Mainly in mountainous parts of New Zealand and south-eastern Australia (New South Wales). The manuka tree belongs to the tea tree family, which also includes cajeput, niaouli and kanuka.
