The real lavender (Angustifolia) and the woolly lavender (Lanata) are considered to be the main types of lavender from the point of view of naturopathy, together with the crested lavender (Stoechas) and the Speiklavender (Lavandula latifolia). Each of these species has different focuses with regard to their potential effects. The lavender is a member of the mint family (Lamiaceae). It grows in Europe in the Mediterranean region – mainly in Spain, therefore this spear lavender comes organic.

Spiked lavender also contains camphor and is one of the most important plants in aromatherapy. The name Speik, Spik and Spicanard comes from the Latin word “spica”, which means “ear”. This in turn reflects the typical appearance of the Speiklavender, whose flower shape resembles that of an ear of corn. The additional terms “latifolia” and “Grosser Speik” refer to the wider or larger leaves and the overall larger vegetation compared to the other types of lavender.

The Speiklavender is closely related to the wild mountain lavender and is the largest lavender species with a height of 80-100cm. It grows best just below 600 meters. However, the ingredients and the effects are different.
