Angelica root bio
The Angelica root or medicinal angelica ( Angelica archangelica), is a 2-4 year old plant. that blooms only once. It reaches heights of 1.5-3m. It is a member of the Umbelliferae (Apiaceae). The distribution goes over north-south and Eastern Europe to the Middle East. The angelica root is originally from Iceland. Today it is common in northern and eastern Europe as well as in Siberia, the Himalayas and North America.
According to legend, the archangel Raphael is said to have brought the angelica plant to earth – therefore it will ( Angelica archangelica ) also called angelica.
It has been used since ancient times as a medicinal plant for ailments in the bronchial and urinary tract as well as for stomach ailments and as a general tonic. In the Middle Ages, the angelica plant was considered to be a pest repellent.
