Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides) belongs to the sweet grass family (Poaceae) and is native to tropical Asia.
Today vetiver is at home in all sub-tropical areas.
Vetiver plants are grown in many countries to stop soil erosion with their deep roots. The roots penetrate the ground up to three meters deep with a dense network. In Asia, vetiver roots are used to make fragrant wickerwork and mats.
